First Thursdays Professional Development Series

At Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, we aim to empower others to “Lead with Purpose”. To support this objective, our Office of Graduate Business Programs launched our First Thursdays Professional Development initiative, with a mission to provide students, community members, business professionals, and alumni a monthly learning and growth opportunity, helping to enrich both present and future leaders.

The series will consist of a variety of formats ranging from panel discussions, to keynote speakers, to workshops, and will address various topics of importance in the business world today.

Session Overview: Estate planning is not a topic many people like to talk about. But being prepared can help your family avoid costly mistakes. Join this session to learn how to avoid common mistakes in:

  • Probate costs and delays: Avoid potential delays of 6 months to one year or more. Eliminate or minimize substantial court, attorneys’, and executors’ fees.
  • Nursing home costs: Protect your nest egg from nursing home costs, which average over $7000 per month in North Carolina.
  • Estate taxes: Eliminate or minimize estate taxes.
  • Incapacity: Make your final wishes known with a Living Will and Health Care Power of Attorney. Avoid a publicly humiliating and expensive guardianship proceeding if you become legally incapacitated or disabled.

About the Speaker: Tyler Britton serves as Assistant Professor of Trust and Wealth Management and Director of the Master of Trust and Wealth Management program at Campbell University. Tyler graduated from Campbell University in 2011, with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Trust and Wealth Management and minor in Financial Planning. He went on to earn his Juris Doctorate from Campbell University School of Law in 2014. Tyler is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Bar Association, Johnston County Bar Association, and Wake County Bar Association.

In addition to his duties at Campbell University, Tyler manages and operates his own law firm, specializing in estate planning, estate administration, and trust law, serves as general counsel for local companies and non-profits, serves on the Board of the Trust Education Foundation, Inc., and is an active member of Thanksgiving Baptist Church, Selma, North Carolina. Tyler also serves as a Guardian ad Litem Attorney Advocate and Guardian ad Litem for the 11th Judicial District of North Carolina where he represents the best interests of child clients in non-secure custody hearings, adjudicatory proceedings, dispositional proceedings, and proceedings to terminate parental rights.

Before joining Campbell, Tyler worked for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the North Carolina Office of Executive Clemency, the North Carolina Office of the State Auditor, and a law firm specializing in real estate law.

Session Overview: Understanding analytics does not have to be complex.  Learn how Tableau transforms the way we use and understand data to understand problems — empowering students to make most of their data and make actionable insights. 

About the Speaker: Dr. Michael Rodriguez serves as an Associate Professor at Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business teaching Business Analytics, Sales, and Digital Marketing. Dr. Rodriguez earned his PhD in Technology Management at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken NJ where he won “Outstanding Dissertation Award” for his research on CRM.

For the past decade Dr. Michael Rodriguez has helped students develop into global customer engagement leaders by focusing on sales process, professionalism, international negotiations and utilization of technology. He has also helped customer-focused organizations improve their sales process and achieve business goals by leveraging technology in the form of CRM, Social and Mobile solutions.

Dr. Rodriguez has coached over 1,000 sales professionals in B2B, complex sales and written over 20 articles focused on the impact technology has on sales performance.

His work has been published in the Journal of Business Research, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Research in Interactive Marketing and Journal of Business to Business Marketing. Dr. Rodriguez also worked on Wall Street for over a decade selling market data and trading platforms to investment banks, asset managers, and hedge funds.

Session Overview: Can you and your organization benefit from mentoring? The answer is probably yes, but where do you begin?

In this session you will learn about building and sustaining mentor programs that make the most impact for you and/or your organization. This webinar will review Campbell Business’s unique peer mentoring model and then review steps you can take to create your own program. Understanding that a mentoring program is not right for every company or individual, we will also cover ways to find mentors and mentees for your personal and professional goals and growth.

About the Speaker: Renee Green serves as the Director of Leadership Development and Student Success in the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business. In this role, she has the opportunity to offer academic support & advisement, coordinate the Business School freshmen seminar, support the Truist Business Fellows, lead the Peer Mentor program, and create innovative leadership programming. She is also a certified facilitator for the Truist Emerging Leadership Certification. Before joining the Business School in 2014, Renee served as an Event Coordinator for Admissions and Admissions Coordinator for the College of Arts & Sciences. As a Campbell graduate herself (’09), her Campbell pride runs deep.

About the Speaker: Paul Vandre is the founder and CEO of Cymbal Marketing, a digital marketing agency that focuses on demand generation and growth marketing. Paul has a wide range of experience in both agency and in-house marketing (B2C, B2B and B2B2C), with a particular interest in startups and early stage companies. He lives in Hillsborough, North Carolina, has three kids and loves to golf.

About the Speaker: Dr. Corrine Carr serves as an Assistant Professor of Finance at Campbell University, teaching Finance courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Carr earned her Bachelor of Science in Finance and Mathematics from the University of South Carolina and her Ph.D. in Finance from Michigan State University. Prior to joining Campbell University in 2017, Dr. Carr served as a professor at West Virginia University.

Speaker Bio: Richard Newton, CTFA (Certified Trust and Financial Advisor), has worked in the Trust and  Family Office Business for over 35 years. He  served in a variety of positions in the Trust and Wealth Management Division of a large national bank for 20 years prior to pursuing a different vocational calling in the creation of Richard Newton & Associates, A Trust and Family Office Consulting Firm.
 
Since 2013 Richard has also been affiliated with the National Christian Foundation (NCF) as a Senior Gift Advisor and in late 2016 Richard became the Regional Director of the Raleigh Affiliate of NCF. At NCF, Richard serves people interested in giving with the goal to mentor on stewardship and generosity, build long lasting relationships, and fully identify, explain and facilitate complicated giving solutions and services.
 
Richard is a graduate of Campbell University’s Undergraduate Trust Major, the Southeastern Trust School and the National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University. Richard holds the Designation of Certified Trust and Financial Advisor and was the first successful candidate to pass the CTFA examination in 1991. Richard is a faculty member at the Southeastern Trust School and a Board Member of the Trust Education Foundation at Campbell University. He also is a guest lecturer in Campbell University’s Trust Program, Wealth Managers Forum and the Trust Advisors Forum.
